A Dear Abby Letter From The Lyman Folks.

Dear Abby,

I’ve never written to you before, but I really need your advice.

I have suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. The usual signs are phone rings, but if I answer, the caller hangs up. My wife has been going out with “the girls” a lot recently, although when I ask their names she always says, “Just some friends from work, you don’t know them..”

I always try to stay awake to look out for her coming home, but I usually fall asleep. Anyway, I have never approached the subject with my wife. I think deep down I just didn’t want to know the truth, but last night she went out again and I decided to really check on her.

Around midnight, I decided to hide next to the garage behind my boat so I could get a good view of the whole street when she arrived home from a night out with “the girls”. When she got out of the car she was buttoning up her blouse, which was open, and she took her panties out of her purse and slipped them on. It was at that moment, crouching behind the boat, that I noticed that there were some hairline cracks in my gelcoat, right were the hull meets the transom of my boat.

Is this something I can fix myself or should I take it over to the boat yard to have it repaired?

Signed, Concerned Boater

Thanks for posting that, Woodyboater. It's the kind of thing that we need in this crazy hobby, someone who really cares about the condition of our delicate boats without getting tangled in the normal emotions of life in general. It doesn't matter how we we go about discovering the intimate details of our boats but when it pops its ugly head up as it did with "concerned boater" someone out there needs to care. I'm so glad that this troubled gentleman brought his problem to our attention here on WoodyBoater. We care and we can help.

Matching color of gelcoat is your biggest concern. I would strongly recommend seeking professional help with this. Oh sorry to hear about your wife.

WHAT!!! The boat doesn't belong to her! I swear man I never would have touched her if she hadn't told me I could have a ride in it after she was satisfied! PS I noticed those same cracks, good luck fixing it.

Dear Concerned Boater – During these difficult and challenging times it's important to get this out in the open, don't keep it all bottled up inside, talk about it. We are here for you man!! Together we will help to get you through this.

As for the wife, I can offer no advice…

    Dear Concerned Boater,
You have a couple MAJOR problems to over come here.
    1. You own a Lyman. Must be young and just learning.
    2. It's a fiberglass Lyman. This will be harder to cure. Try to find out what kind of boat your wife's new Beau has. If he has no boat she is just looking. If he has a Wood Chris-Craft she has moved up and will be gone soon.

Wow this last post is quite the snob. He fills the stereotype of chriscraft owners. Maybe his wife already left him.

Ha, there are parts of the thousand islands were if you were in the wrong type of boat you would be scorned on. I suppose in the day it was like Chevy's and Fords… maybe anonymous had not yet had his java..

Hey if the Garwoods look down on the CC's and Riva people look down on everyone, the CC guys have to give someone grief. Even if it is all in good fun. We won't even talk about people who own VanDam's (chorus of angels singing in background).

I sent the joke that came from someone in a Lyman group. It never mentions Lymans in the joke. It is like a bad case of people reading what they want. Luckily most of the responses are funny. I will not send anymore that offer an opportunity to single out a specific group for ridicule. My best to all woodyboaters with an inclusive nature.
