But after posting the story yesterday about the 1954 Kom-Pak fiberglass boat trailers and that unusual Bowlus aluminum travel trailer, we didn’t want anyone out there to think we were forgetting about what’s important to the Woody Boater Community – Classic Wooden Boats! And “ZIZI” is all wood right down to the wooden helm, steering wheel, bar sink and folding cockpit table.
This boat is located in Seattle, Washington and is listed with the Pacific Marine Foundation. Here’s what they have to say about “ZIZI” on their web site.
Imagine the looks you’ll get in this one! She’s a 1954 Swedish Storebro Solö Ruff, Express Cruiser. All mahogany hull and interior with seamed fir decks. There may not be more more than a dozen of these classic boats in the US.
She was imported and completely reconditioned in 2003 including a new Volvo diesel. This lovely boat is a true collector’s item.
The hull is constructed of steam bent oak frames with mahogany planking and the foredeck is seamed fir. Multiple finish coats create a warm, rich, honey-colored lustre to both interior and exterior. Nassimi ‘Symphony’ brand vinyl is used on both the helm and bench seats. The cuddy bunks and cushions are covered with Sunbrella fabric.
So now, the next time your hanging around the old boat shed with your buddies and someone says “Hey Bro, have you ever heard of a Swedish Girl named ZIZI?” You can answer… “Heck Ya, I read about ZIZI on Woody Boater the other day.”

If anyone is wondering, I looked up the asking price. It shows $56,000. Pacific Marine Foundation sells boats which are donated. This boat is one of them. More proof I’ll never be an expert on wooden boats. Here is an absolutely gorgeous and yet I’ve never even heard of it. Even if I had seen it in an add if it didn’t have a picture I most likely would not have even looked into it. Will have to change that attitude. Thanks for enlightening us Texx.
