One Of the Best Parts Of The Sunnyland Show – There’s Always A Few Surprises To See

If you are at just the right place at the right time, you can always find something unusual at the Sunnyland Antique Boat Festival. From the most elegant runabouts, like “Katie’s Choice” a beautiful 1930 28′ Gar Wood Runabout that Robert Miracle shot navigating the Dora Canal…

To this rare 1957 Lone Star Meteor 14′ that we spotted at the dock on Sunday. It’s unsusual to see these unique fiberglass finned runabouts in the water. Usually they are shown on their trailers, at least at any boat show I have been to over the last few years.

This Lone Star Meteor is owned by Carolina Sendon from Miami, Florida. The Meteor was originally designed by Bob Hammond and caused quite a sensation at the New York & Chicago Boat Shows when it was first introduced to the public.

The Mercury outboard appeared to be absolutley perfect…

As was the interior. Check out that period correct, color matched Attwood Seaflight steering wheel – very cool…

And the Lone Star Meteor looked so good in the water… Elegant as well.

Robert & Linda Miracle and the rest of the crew are now in Jacksonville, NC at the New River Air Station (Camp Lejeune) for the Military Appreciation Boat Show with the US Marines & their families. The nice folks from the Blue Ridge Chapter ACBS are also on hand for this great event. Stay tuned to Woody Boater for a few Live-ish updates from the show throughout the weekend.

Your right Texx great shots. Just to but a name to some of the boats, the race boat P51-1 is Jeff Buckley’s and the Beeline Saphire red and white boat is Bill and Nancy Anderson’s check out the rest of his amazing collection of boats http://www.billscars.com/boatframe.htm

  3. Al Benton says:

We drove up to Gridley, IL a few weeks ago to see Bill Anderson’s amazing collection of classic fiberglass boats. He’s a very grasious guy and opened his doors for our group to druel all over his beautiful works of art. He should have passed out clean shop towels so we could clean up after ourselves.

  4. Texx says:

Thanks for the information and link to the Bill Andersons site Steve.

  5. Harris says:

The 57 Meteor was truly a beautiful boat but the engine is not right. A 650 Mercury would be all black not white. The white paint scheme ended in 1961 and the 650 is a later engine.
