Antique & Classic Boat Images From The 2011 Lake Hartwell Antique Boat Festival – Part 3

During the 2011 Lake Hartwell Antique Boat Festival, Robert Miracle captured a few nice images of “Lisa Marie” a 1939 19′ Gar Wood Model 912 Runabout. This rare Gar Wood Runabout, which is owned by Rodger & Lisa Brown, received the award for Best Restored Antique Gar Wood Runabout at the 46th Annual Antique Boat Show in Clayton, New York in 2010. (You can click on the image to slightly enlarge it)

In his book Gar Wood Boats – Classics of a Golden Era, Tony Mollica notes… “In 1939 the unique barrel bow styling developed on the first Streamliner would become the standard treatment on all Gar Wood runabout models.”

Only 25 – 19′ Gar Wood runabouts were produced for the 1939 model year. “Lisa Marie” is a beautiful example of the timeless Gar Wood stying from the era.

“Wave Toucher” is a classic 1959 Chris-Craft 22′ Sea Skiff Ranger once owned by Dick & Janet Banner from Port of Eureka, IL. The mighty Sea Skiff is now owned by Frank Rupp of Charleston, SC.

On Saturday Woody Boater broke the story about the near sinking and subsequent rescue of “Impossible Dream” a 1949 Shepherd on Lake Hartwell. One of the boats that assisted with the rescue effort on Thursday was “Norwegian Son” an immaculate 1950 23′ Chris-Craft Holiday owned by Al & Bonne Olsen from Hartwell, Georgia. Thanks again to Al & Bonne, and the crew for your quick thinking on the water. Well done!

Between 1950 & 1952 a total of only 88 – 23′ Holidays were produced by Chris-Craft, which makes them quite rare today.

We have had the opportunity to see images of “Scene Changes” a few times over the last year, as it’s another classic boat that Robert Miracle has photographed at various boat shows throughout the south east. But we always love to see these big Sea Skiffs in action.

It’s a classic 1961 23′ Chris-Craft Sea Skiff sporting a 275 HP 350 GM modern power plant, owned by Don & Charlotte Baker from Alabaster, Alabama.

I believe Wave Toucher, the great looking 22′ Sea Skiff Ranger belongs to Frank Rupp of Charleston, SC these days. Dick was indeed the owner a couple of years ago.

I had the pleasure of riding in this Sea Skiff on the Mississippi Rover when Dick owned her, then again last year on Lake Dora after Frank became her new owner.

we have really enjoyed the live-ish reports; the pictures, the stories…they have been fantiastic and thank you all, it has been fun “keeping up” with you!

  3. Texx says:

Thanks Al for the clarification. “Wave Toucher” wasn’t shown on the Lake Hartwell boat registration list, so I referred to my trusty ACBS Directory.

It’s a great looking Sea Skiff and one of those images I just had to share with the viewers.

Funny story, I’m in the middle of restoring a 1939 19′ Gar Wood same boat as above. This is my 3rd wooden boat and I didm’t name the first 2 so I was going to name it after my wife. Guess what her name is? yup Lisa Marie. Well time for plan B.

  5. Matt,
I think you just came up with the boats name
    “Plan B”
