2011 Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance – A Few Show Boats From Friday

On Friday night at the Exhibitors’ Barbecue and Awards Presentation for the 39th Annual Lake Tahoe d’Elegance, Tahoe Yacht Club Foundation President Dave Olson commented that this was one of the largest days for spectator attendance in recent history for the event. I can say that the docks and area around Sierra Boat Company was packed with people all day, which was fantastic to see. Certainly a great way to spend a sunny summer Friday in Lake Tahoe.

Here’s some images of a few of the show boats on display this year. Above is a shot of “Jean Ann” a 1939 19′ Gar Wood 912 Custom Runabout, owned by Jonathan and Jean Trevillyan from Acton, California.  This immaculate Gar Wood was recently restored by Robinson Restoration and won the award for Best of Show.

Below is two shots of ”Flat Top” another award winning boat this year from Alan Jackson’s collection in Tennessee, a very cool 1955 29′ Chris-Craft Semi Enclosed.

Herb Hall from Sierra Boat Company returning from a cruise in “Leading Lady” a 1940 24’6″ Gar Wood 198 Custom Utility.

The 621 HP 6-Cylinder Packard that powers “Baby Skipalong”, Ed Scott’s rare 1924 26’7″ Nevins Gentlemen’s Raceboat.

Two unique Chris-Craft 25′ Sportsman’s together at Lake Tahoe. “Barnwood” (left) a very original 1948 Sportsman Sedan powered by a 225 HP Model 208 6-Cylinder Scripps and “West Winds” (right) a 1948 open Sportsman powered by a 316 HP Model 302 V-12 Scripps.  “Barnwood” which is owned by Paul & Karen Harrison won a first place award this year.

Some of the very impressive Gar Wood Triple Cockpits lined up at the docks.

“Liberty” is an amazing 1932 28′ Gar Wood 28-55 Runabout owned by the Vento Family, from St. Thomas, VI.

“Liberty” is powered by a 425 HP 12 Cylinder Gar Wood Liberty engine, which is very impressive.

“Truant II” a 1939 28′ Gar Wood 936 Custom Runabout powered by a 316 HP V-12 Scripps engine.

“Truant II” was delivered to Obexer’s Boat Company at Lake Tahoe on April 17, 1939.

After the Lake Tahoe Concours she will be heading west to the Mecum Monterey Auction, which is scheduled for August 18-20, 2011.

“Fourty Pines” is a 1941 28’6″ Gar Wood Flagship Triple Cockpit powered by a 300 HP V-12 Scripps, owned by Manny & Juanita Del Arroz from Diablo, California.

The beautiful “Fourty Pines” is the last 28′ Gar Wood ever produced.

“Miss Detroit III” is a 1918/2007 20′ Gar Wood Gold Cup Replica owned by Ken Muscatel from Seattle, Washington.

Stay tuned to Woody Boater for more Live-ish reports from Lake Tahoe, including a full breakdown of all the award winners as presented on Friday night.

sweeeeeeet! I saw Truant at Tahoe in 2009 with that cool matt finish. How good does she look.
I’m loving the fact that I can click on the pictures and get an enlargement. ( that sounds rude but I aint changing it.) This should become a ‘ must have ‘ Woody feature.
    happy times in Tahoe.

Philip – “Truant II” looks fabulous, Tim & Brian Robinson have been caring for her recently and have her all polished up for her trip to the Mecum Auction in Monterey.

Hey, I was just thinking that would be a perfect boat for your growing family in New Zealand… I would even fit in a 40′ sea can!

  2. Rick says:

Not sure how the judges can do their jobs with so many perfect boats. It’s a dream and a nightmare at the same time. What would stand out anywhere else could just get lost there.

  3. Mark C says:

    more pics of flattop!

    • Texx says:

Mark – We are scheduled to go out on “Flat Top” this afternoon, so if we do the photos will follow… Stay tuned, it is a very cool, very big, very black boat.

  4. WoodyGal says:

So many gorgeous, perfect and rare boats! Visual overload for sure!

  5. Bill Papendick says:

What a marvelous setting for such a classic boat show!
I haven’t been to Lake Tahoe since being stationed at 4th.
Air Force Headquarters in San Francisco in 1945.

    • Texx says:

Bill – The cool part about Lake Tahoe is that some things, like the old Gar Wood Triples are the same as they were in 1945.

In the next few days we will be doing a story on a 1936 28′ Gar Wood that was originally delivered to Lake Tahoe and is still in the same family today… Very cool stuff!

Can’t wait to make it out there… someday.

    Thanks for the coverage.

  7. Sabina says:

Just a couple of little factoids – 8 of those marque class boats are wearing Tony Brown varnish – of the 79 boats in the show this year 12 came out of Western Runabouts – and one was built from scratch – T-44 Wild Horses. Just sayin’…:) Love your coverage of the Concours, the Gathering of the Garwoods and just plain having you all with us this year.
