2010 Sandpoint ACBS Show – Northern Idaho Wood-n-Stock

The 2010 Sandpoint ACBS Show was once again a great success. The Inland Empire Chapter continues to come up with fresh and innovative ways to put on this fun event. Now it’s our job at WoodyBoater to come up with a fresh and innovative way to report on the show – Yikes!

The theme of this year’s show was “Wood-n-Stock”, a throw back to the days of Flower Power and Peace Signs… man. I’m sure some of our regular viewer’s remember those days – right? Even some old Hippies came out of the woodwork in Northern Idaho for the event.

There were around 45 antique & classic boats entered this year, wood & fiberglass, inboards & outboards, a great range of boats from the Pacific Northwest and Canada. The weather was perfect all weekend with temperatures in the high 80′s and low 90′s, and Lake Pend Oreille was beautiful as always.

The overall award for Best of Show this year went to “Grand Rouge” a 1939 16′ Chris-Craft Racing Runabout owned by Kris & Tom Bassett from Wenatchee, Washington.

I spotted this big Lyman cruising around the Sandpoint docks with a load of boat show spectator’s.

Three generations of Franchini’s came over from the Seattle area for the show.

Inland Empire Chapter Past President BK Powell (left) and ACBS National Past President Dick Werner provided the entertainment during the Awards Banquet on Saturday night.
Sunday morning at 7:00 AM, already 80 degrees and the lake was inviting us to join in the splendor of the day. So guess what we did?

We hopped in John Tyler’s ’56 Century Coronado, fired up the 427 Interceptor and joined in the fun – Big Fun! When is the last time you ran a boat with a factory foot pedal for the throttle? And the cool part is when you take your foot off the pedal it stays in the same position, kind of like old school cruise control for a boat…
Below is a shot of “Shady Lady” Tim & Deb Salt’s new (old) 1955 Chris-Craft Continental 22′ Hard Top with original Chrysler hemi power. This is also the cover boat for today’s story. Stay tuned to WoodyBoater for a full story on this interesting and rare boat in the days to come.

The weekend started on Friday with a Welcome Aboard Party hosted by chapter member Michael Boge at his restaurant, ZIPS Drive In – which included a nice land display. Then the judged boat show at the docks in downtown Sandpoint,
followed by the awards banquet on Saturday night. On Sunday everyone was invited to cruise over to Dover Bay for an outdoor breakfast and then spent the day playing on the water.

Fellow Woody Boaters Paul & Karen Harrison aboard “Satin Doll” – One of those days that you wish would never end.

I wasn’t sure exactly what this boat was – but it was made of wood and this is WoodyBoater… I think the dog could smell the breakfast sausage from across the lake.

At the end of a long, hot day on the water, we put John’s Coronado back on the trailer. I think we rode her hard and put her away wet…. not really. Thanks John, it was great.
