2010 Lake Tahoe Concours – Thursday Set Up

Well here we are, back to Lake Tahoe for the 2010 Concours d’ Elegance at Sierra Boat Company Marina in beautiful Carnelian Bay, California. This year they are featuring Classic Fiberglass boats up to 1964, and as usual the range of Antique and Classic boats is fanatstic! Partcipants can either launch their boats at one of the public boat ramps or at the Sierra Boat Company Gantry, like the Chris-Craft Cobra shown above.
But before you launch your boat in Lake Tahoe, regardless of how or where you launch your boat, you must have a mandatory invasive species boat inspection. We decided to get “Casper” inspected at 6:00 AM when the inspection station opens so we could get over to Sierra Boat Company and get in line for the gantry. “Casper” has a period correct Mercury outboard, which means we are not allowed to run the motor – Period.

The gantry launch procedure is very well organized and moves quickly, and the Sierra Boat staff were great.

Once the boats are in the water, everyone begins the detailing for the big show.

Some of the boats arrived in enclosed trailers, like this 1948 21′ Duke Utility owned by Dick & Sandra Wendt. The boat trailer fits inside the enclosed trailer and it works real neat.

Woody Boater Don Hardy from McCall Boatworks has two restorations in this years show and was all smiles.
It was fun to watch Houston Girl bark to life for the engine check. She’s a 1928 17′ Custom-Hacker 151 Class Raceboat. Check out the ripples on the water from the exhaust…

18′ and 21′ Chris-Craft Cobra’s, it was interesting to see these boats docked side by side and to appreciate the difference in the overall size and dimensions between the two Cobra’s.
Jim & Sharon West’s 1966 Century Fibersport 17′ with custom wood deck planking.

Celebrating the successful re-launch of “Twin Finn” with Don & Molly Hardy.
“Casper” all polished up with some new period correct seat cushions from Stanley Marshall’s Custom Upholstery in Sacramento, California. These were a 90.00 option (per set) offered by Chris-Craft Dealer’s in 1957 – Slightly higher today…..

“Miss Catalina VI” a 1939 29’11″ Bombard Speedboat Company beauty.

Great shots thanks Tex, not as good as being there but a tonic for my winter blues down here in wintery New Zealand. Casper has scrubbed up beautifully! Good luck. Phil.

No Lymans. No matter. That picture of the old outboard with the Mountain and Lake. I would be more than happy to paddle and float. And a tow back in would help. Beautiful shot and the rest, Thanks. I feel cooler already. The shed is only 93 degrees and I want to put my third coat. A cold beer and that picture might help.

Very lame about the 2 strokes. Run a recording thru an amp just to watch the Eco Police come running!

I was at Algonac this weekend and I heard about a very correct 19 foot custom Chris Craft in the shop at the Antique Boat Center. Can you tell us anything? Or is it not what some are saying it is?
