Reedville Virginia Classic Boating Cures All!

Jimmy and Lynn in Jimmys very nice Chris Craft Rivera in front of the Stack a Reedville landmark

In was an interesting week here last week.  One of our beloved pets was killed by a fox in the front yard the day after our last son graduated from high school, now making us empty nesters.. a happy yet sad time…my father was put in hospice, and I have had to deal with multiple office issues regarding staffing. That on top of being called every insult in the book here on my own site that I use as stress relief. All this within a 2 day period. There was only one thing left to do. Yup, run away.. First Friday  at the St. Michaels ACBS show. What a great crowd and great group of boats.

Then off to Reedville Virgina for some peace and quiet. The best thing is that there is no web there or cell coverage in my home. I have to go out on a boat to get cell coverage.  The irony. One of the fantastic things about Reedville is that is virtually un touched by the crap over the last 10 years of mega mansions and jet ski weekenders.

Reedville at night with the newly saved Stack in the distance. A sibol of Reedvilles rich tradition of being a working fishing village

It’s a working fishing village right here on the Chesapeake Bay. Thats right, second largest fishing port in the US.. A town in Alaska is number one. We had at one point 13 fish factories. now just one. with a large fleet. Along with countless crabbers and watermen. Most of the boats are wood work boats and folks get around by small skiffs. There is even a Skipjack here.. It’s virtually unchanged  in a hundred years of life here. On our creek, Cockrells Creek, we are surrounded by all working folks, Waterman, and a like.

Cockreels Seafood on Cockrells Creek serves fantastic crab cakes, Soft shell Crabs.. This photo could have been taken 50 years ago..

We are the only ego filled weekenders, lovingly called “Come heres” OK the boatress is from around there, so I am called a “dragged here”.. There is a great fisherman museum, The Reedville Fishermans Museum  and a main street with magnificent Victorian homes along the way. Developed by New Englanders after the Civil War, the town looks like a small New England town. To top it all off, you could take a nap in the middle of main street. It’s a fantastic place to get away from the crap in the world. Fish crap is better than other crap sometimes.. So this weekend despike a spooky sky, My across the river woody boater pals Jimmy and Lynn said, lets go Woody Boating. Jimmy has a very nice collection of classic boats, and this weekend we made good use of them. Jimmys very nice Danenberg restored Rivera, and his killer 350 V8 17 foot cavalier.. OK that boat is to fast.. But just what the doctor ordered. A couple full throttle reves and it’s amazing what disappears.. For a short time I was not boatless. Classic boats have there issues, but the good far out weighs the bad..

Out on the Great Wicomico River.ahhhhhhhhh

It got funny after a while. Like a bad country music song. My son came in from Boulder and left three days early. He said he thought he might get in a car wreck.. And yes he got a speeding ticket that same day.

Boy, and now you had to go tell everybody about your special place for peace. Yikes! here comes the crowd

I just made a recomendation for Reedville on every jet-ski forum and blog I could find. They should start showing up any minute, but you can thank me later.

BTW, if you think we called you every insult in the book, your copy must be missing a few chapters!

Matt Do Not Lose the Faith. I would only call you names behind your back. Hope you had a couple of crab cakes for the rest of us. I enjoyed the thread shutdown. Sometimes a Woody Boater has to do what they have to do. May the power of Xylem be with you.

    Matt,
Sorry about the adverse events, but I’m glad you have Reedville to retreat to. We were at the Crazy Crab Saturday for lunch, then out on the GW in Bay Lady hunting the dolphins, which we found on the North side of Ingram Bay. I believe we saw you guys in your beautiful old boats.

And m-fine? No need to notify the jet skis: they’re already in place.

    Tom

Saw bay lady at crazy crab and on the wicomico. Dang that is one nice boat. Next time I’ll stop by. We had a Ron of fun. More this weekend!

Well, I missed it, whatever it was. Just as well I suppose. The only trace of adversity are some late comments that suggest something unpleasant must have gone on with comments. Glad they’re gone.

The Reedville area on Chesapeake Bay does look like a great place to step back and regroup when necessary (in an ole’ woody boat). Wish there were places like that on the Mississippi River but they’re all gone.

Glad to hear that all is well…

  9. randy & ginger says:

here is hoping that you have adjusted to all the big changes that have occured in your life…in such a short span of time…

you and your family are in our thoughts…

    congratulations to your boy!
