Behind The Scenes Of The Perfect Woody Boater Weekend.

I am looking through the camera thinking, "this is great" She is thinking, Dear lord that old fat man is going to have a heart attack, And Bob Kays is thinking. OH,,, Thats the shot of the week!

Ya had to be there….. And of course thanks to many fellow Woody Boaters we were all able to do just that. Don Ayers reporting in from a  Riva Event on Lake Tahoe,  Paul ” Our Reporter Broken Down On The Side Of The Road” Harrison and his amazing bride Karen From Sandpoint Idaho, Alex Watson doing a bad baby sitting job from Hessle,Ron Stevenson from Washington State, Mike Green from a show in Michigan,  and Texx for somehow making it all happen at Woody Boater HQ.. Dang.. And of course all this was playing out while I was… playing out.side.. On our trip to Mohawk Lake NJ.. What a cool place.. So here are some shots from the weekend..

Two Big Woodys Were handed out this weekend to Don Ploetner and Seth Katz of Katz's marina for an outstanding job on putting together a new show from scratch at lake Mohawk. The work that went into this is note worthy. Alex Kays killed himself making this all happen as well. The three of them had to create every detail on a private lake with only one access point. Is went perfectly and should set a new standard for some other small shows.. Amazing job.. Congrats on your Big Woodys.. I know your significant others will be impressed.

We spent sunday out on this amazing 1960 24 sportsman. 99 3/4 points.. You will never guess why it was dinged 1/4 point at the Clayton show.. More on that tomorrow.. Amazing boat

So while we are all enjoying a normal life.. The Riva folks on Lake tahoe are eating all the Lobster they can eat.. Dang! All I had was grey Poupn.. What the hell, no one told me that there was Lobsa on the other coast..

Out on Lake Tahoe, Don Ayers was roughing it

Just another quiet morning on lake tahoe

Port Orchard at the Chris Craft Randevoius..Boy I buthered that spelling. But dang who cares... what ever ya call it, it looks like a fun time. You can read all about it below

Its a tough gig.. Riding around on cool boats on beutiful bodys of water with fun folks..

Mike Green from maritime Classics was emailing and taunting me with another beutiful 24 sportsman for sale up in Michigan. As boxy as these boats are, they are underrated and amzing on the water for a fun party. Thanks Mike

There were a ton of stories this weekend, so you may need to actually go through to the next page, by clicking on the “older stories” button. Thanks to all you roaving reporters. Wooohooo, we all got to go all over the US and see boats..

Been out of the loop for over a week, no wi-fi ! So much do read after a week, no wooden boats for a whole week!! But spent much of the week on a wooden surfboard so that has to count for something.

Interesting top shot. Didn’t think it was a Miracle Photography pic. Maybe I won’t use that one as my desktop background. So the Riva crowd eats lobster while the rest of us eat chicken-on-a-stick? I wonder if they’ll notice if I cover up the CC name with masking tape and write Riva in with a crayon? I’ll even bring wine in a box.

  3. Don Ayers says:

Hey, the Riva gang will eat chick on a stick anytime! A bunch of good folks like everyone else in the hobby.

sent some more pics to Matt to post. Working on a video and will post URL link.

A great time with 56 people, sunny sky, no wind, and 75

If you have not been to the Concourse at Tahoe you owe it to yourself to make the trek someday

With all of the wonderful delcasies from Italy, the Riva guys chose lobster? I hope they were medeterranean langoustines and not the cold water Maine variety!

After watching how far this Woody Boater site has come over the years and especially in just the past year is absolutely amazing. We can enjoy seeing highlights from multiple shows all across the country thanks to today’s technology. This has come a long way this past year, just think how it is bound to progress in the following 12 months. Can’t wait…

I guess I should let you know that we have a 24′ and a 26′ Continental for the September auction in Wisconsin. Looks like we’ll have around 40-60 units in all. Still gathering steam at this point. We will have a few surprises soon!
